LITTLE ROCK, Ark. ? The UALR Trojans (7-12, 3-5)
dropped game-two of their three-game set with Louisiana-Lafayette, as the
Ragin' Cajuns (9-9-1, 3-4) rolled up 13 runs on 14 hits to defeat UALR 13-5
Saturday afternoon at “Tigue” Moore Field.
The Trojan offense got four runs off of ULL starting
pitcher Blake Haagen and jumped out to a 4-1 lead. UALR did not equal that
success against Zach Osborne, however, who came out of the pen and pitched the
final seven innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four
to earn his first win of the year.
Trojan starting pitcher Adam Champion was hit with the loss, falling to 1-2 this season.
Champion tossed 3.2 innings and allowed five runs on four hits and four walks
while fanning three.
Les Smith led the way for the Ragin' Cajuns as he was
3-for-5 with five RBI, including a two-run home run and a run scored. Designated
hitter Matt Goulas, who was playing in just his third game of the season, was
3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Scott Hawkins added two hits and an
RBI and Thad Griffen also added three RBI in the winning cause.
The Trojans, whose offense tallied five runs on seven
hits, four of which were from Landis
Wilson, did all their damage in the first three innings. UALR got four runs
in the second after Wilson and Jared Powell each drove in runs and Matt Apfel laced a two-run double down
the left field line.
The Trojans got their last run of the game in the third
inning when Powell hit an RBI single to right scoring Wilson.
The Trojans and the Ragin' Cajuns conclude play tomorrow
afternoon at “Tigue” Moore Field with action set to get underway at 1 p.m.
