LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The UALR swimming and diving team concluded their
season-opening meet against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at the Donaghey Center
Natatorium. At the end of competition,
OBU defeated UALR by a score of 139.5-86.5, despite a number of strong
performances by the Trojans.
One of
those performances came in the 200-yard medley relay, in which the Trojans took
first place and earned 11 points. Paige Thoman, Audra Stalzer, Amber Kelly
and Kara Raney finished the race in
1:53.39 to defeat the second-place team from OBU by just eight hundredths of a
second.
Raney
would also find individual success on the day, finishing first and earning nine
points in the 50-yard freestyle event that saw Sarah Beth Slinkard finish fifth to also garner points for UALR.
Thoman
would also pick up an individual victory for the Trojans, finishing first in
the 100-yard freestyle event in 55.01.
Rezac placed fourth in the race, finishing in a time of 56.22.
Stalzer
added a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:14.00
for four Trojans points.
In the
100-yard freestyle event, Holly Myers
and Megan Nelson finished third and
fourth, respectively, combining for five points.
Myers would
fare even better in the 100-yard backstroke event, picking up a first-place
finish and nine points for UALR with a time of 1:02.05. Jenna Rutecki placed fourth with a time of
1:03.74.
In another
solid showing for the Trojans, Jordan
Moon finished third while Krysten
Rezac finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle.
In the
500-yard freestyle, Nelson finished third and Moon placed fourth to acquire
five points for UALR.
Later, in
the 400-yard individual medley, Hope
Myers and Stalzer would earn points for UALR with Myers finishing fourth in
5:03.50 and Stalzer placing fifth in 5:06.38.
Kelly and
Amy Tran placed second and third, respectively, to earn seven points in the
100-yard butterfly event.
In the
one-meter diving event, the Trojans' Melissa
Martin placed second and earned four points with a final score of 147.00. Martin also added points to the Trojan cause
with her finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The final
high note of the day for the Trojans would come in the 200-yard freestyle
relay. Raney, Holly Myers, Thoman and
Kelly finished the race in 1:41.44 to finish in a tie for first and earn 7.5
points

return to action next weekend in a meet with Austin
College in Shreveport, La. Competition will be on Saturday, October 23,
and is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
