Box Score TULSA, Okla. - Warren Niles poured in a season-high 25 points off the bench and Dominique Morrison put together a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead Oral Roberts (1-3) to an 86-60 win over UALR (3-2) on Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles shot 57.1 percent from the field and connected on 10-of-16 three-point attempts (62.5 percent) to pick up their first win of the 2010-11 season and first-ever victory over the Trojans.
UALR senior Solomon Bozeman was the only player to score in double figures for UALR, finishing with a season-high 20 points in the losing effort. The Magnolia, Ark.-native converted 9-of-10 free throws and went 3-for-3 from three-point range.
UALR shot just 35.2 percent from the field in the loss and was outrebounded 38-to-29 by the Golden Eagles. Oral Roberts used a 19-2 first-half run to take a 42-27 lead into the intermission and then shot 63.6 percent from the field in the second half. Forwards Steven Roundtree and Damen Bell-Holter added 13 and 10 points, respectively, helping ORU enjoy a 32-to-18 advantage in points in the paint.
The Trojans held an early 9-4 lead after a three pointer by Bozeman, but the Golden Eagles ripped off 13-unanswered points as part of a 19-2 run to build a 12-point edge from which UALR would never recover. Morrison and Niles opened the run with back-to-back three pointers and Bell-Holter capped it off with a layup at the 9:22 mark to put ORU ahead 23-12.
UALR cut its deficit to six points, 24-18, off a three pointer by senior Matt Mouzy, but the Golden Eagles refused to let their lead slip away. ORU followed up Mouzy's three pointer with a bucket by Niles and a three pointer from Hunter McClintock to go back on top by 11, 29-18. Leading 37-27, the Golden Eagles scored the final five points of the half to take a 15-point lead into the locker room, 42-27.
Oral Roberts shot 51.9 percent from the field in the first half, with Morrison and Niles combining for 24 points off 8-of-12 shooting over the first 20 minutes. ORU connected on 5-of-9 three-point attempts in the half and scored 10 points off UALR's 11 turnovers.
UALR returns to action Friday afternoon when it welcomes Louisiana Tech to the Jack Stephens Center at 2 p.m.
