Box Score TROY, Ala. ? Troy (14-11, 3-4) outhit the UALR baseball team 12-to-6 on Friday night on its way to a 6-3 victory in the Sun Belt series opener at Riddle-Pace Field. UALR (16-12, 3-7) held a 3-0 lead through five innings, but mustered just one hit over the final five frames as Troy extended its win streak to six games.
UALR took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when junior Jake Rowell followed up a leadoff double by junior Casey McCollum with a RBI single to right center. The Trojans extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the second as freshman Tyler Cameron plated seniors Landis Wilson and Nate Brown with a two-out, two-run single through the left side.
Senior Adam Champion (3-2) blanked the home team for the first five innings on Friday night, but Troy opened the sixth with three-straight hits, including back-to-back doubles, to push across three runs and tie things up at 3-all. T.J. Rivera and Ryan Ditthardt hit consecutive RBI doubles to make it a 3-2 contest, and Ditthardt scored the tying run from third on a wild pitch.
Troy tacked on two more runs in the sixth, as Steven Felix hit a solo homer to right and Shohei Fujita delivered a two-out RBI single to right center. Felix was one of four Troy players to enjoy a multi-hit effort in the win, leading the way with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, two runs scored and one RBI.
Troy tacked on an insurance run in the eighth, but reliever Chase Whitley (2-1) wouldn't need it. The 6-4 junior got the win in relief by holding the Trojans hitless over the final 2.2 innings, striking out four batters and retiring the final seven UALR hitters in order.
Champion took the loss for UALR after allowing 11 hits and five runs over 6.2 innings of work. Troy starter Andrew Dickinson went 6.1 innings in a no decision, giving up six hits and three runs to UALR.
The two teams return to action tomorrow after at 3 p.m. in a game which will be televised by CSS/CST.
