LITTLE ROCK - Junior Kara Raney completed the weekend sweep of the 50 freestyle while freshman Megan Scott won the 3-meter diving for her first collegiate win to lead UALR against Tulane Saturday morning (Oct. 6). Tulane defeated the Trojans 154.5-69.5.
"The team did not look as sharp today as we did yesterday," head coach Amy Burgess explained. "You could definitely see the week's work taking a toll, but we still had some that pushed through and raced to the end.
"This weekend showed us many things we need to work on and what we can do to improve as the season moves on," Burgess added.
Raney took the fastest event in swimming in 24.51, tying Kristine Gu of Tulane. To go along with her event win, Raney captured a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 backstroke and as a member of the 400 free relay. She finished with a time of 59.51 in the back and teamed up with seniors Amber Kelly and Rebecca McEachern and freshman Valeriya Teplova for a time of 3:53.66 in the relay.
"Kara Raney is definitely a fighter till the end and hates to lose the 50. It is good for her to be able to get up two days in a row and race with success. It will help her as she moves through the season to practice all the little things," Burgess said.
In diving, Scott bested her score on the 3-meter board by 12 points to her first collegiate diving event with a total of 218. She also took third off the 1-meter board with a combined score of 192.97.
"Megan did great. She felt like she didn't do well on the one meter so she came back strong on the three meter. I am proud of her," diving coach Mike Bailey said.
Finishing third was Kelly in the 200 IM (2:15.54) while Teplova took third in the 100 free (54.24).
UALR returns to action in three weeks when in travels to Conway, Ark. (Oct. 26-27) when it participates in the Hendrix Classic and the Hendrix Relays.
