- The UALR baseball team (4-2) dropped its second contest of the season on
Saturday with a 19-3 loss at the hands of the Bradley Braves (2-2) at Rose Park
in Nashville, Tenn. The Bradley bats out-hit the Trojans 15-4 and hit four home
runs on the day, including two by centerfielder Max Murphy, in addition to
being helped by four Trojan errors.

Huffman (1-1) was handed the loss for the Trojans. Huffman went 4.0 innings
while giving up six hits and eight runs (five earned) while walking three and
striking out four. Bradley's Joe Bircher (1-0) gave up just three runs on four
hits in 8.1 innings of work to pick up his first win of the season.
Sophomore Ben
Crumpton was the only UALR player with multiple hits in the game. Crumpton
finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while juniors David Guarno and Tyler Cameron supplied the remaining two UALR base hits.
Both teams opened the games with a pair of scoreless
frames before Bradley put up three runs in the top half of the third. An RBI
single by Rob Elliot brought in the first run of the inning before a two-RBI
double by Jason Leblebijian plated the Braves' final two runs of the frame to give
BU a 3-0 lead.
Bradley tacked on three more in the fourth and two more
in the fifth before a five-run explosion in the top of the sixth.
After the Braves loaded the bases to start the sixth
inning, a pair of walks issued by freshman Matt
Brown plated the first two Bradley runs of the inning. Following an infield
RBI by Leblebigian, Greg Partyka ripped a two-RBI single through the right side
to make it a 13-0 contest.
The Braves put up two runs in the top of the seventh and
four in the top of the ninth before UALR got on the board with three runs in
their final set of at bats. Cameron led off the inning with a double to right
center, and freshman Brandon Gil
reached on an error to give UALR runners at first and third with no outs. A
double by Crumtpon to left field plated Cameron, and another double by Guarno
later in the inning drove home the final two UALR runs of the inning.
UALR will finish its weekend series in Nashville with a
pair of games on Sunday. First, UALR squares off against Bradley at 10:30 a.m.,
and will then take on Belmont in their second game at 2 p.m.
