ResultsPENSACOLA, Fla. – Little Rock swimming and diving was dealt three loses in the first day of its meet with West Florida (165-75), Air Force (184-52) and Tulane (198-42) on Friday night.
Little Rock had a couple of individual fourth-place finishes for the day. Freshman
Laura Ruiz Astorga grabbed the first one in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.61, finishing just 1.28 seconds behind the winning time.
Ann Kharlamova,
Cassie Sanchez and
Kara Knapschaefer also competed in the event and took places of 13th, 15th and 17th, respectively.
Sophomore Tori had a fourth-place finish with a time of 5:14.18 in the 500-yard freestyle while
Steph Lauer took a 13th-place finish.
Fryar placed fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle as she came in with a time of 17:46.12.
Kayla Grimm placed eighth while Lauer came in 10th.
Courtney Coe also took fifth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.47, her fastest of the season thus far.
Jinson Kang finished a few spots behind in eighth.
Nuria Gallego Murcia took seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.93.
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Emma Doll placed ninth with a time of 1:59.92 while
Chelsea Ebert placed 13th for the event.
Shayna Underwood placed ninth in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:14.92. She finished ahead of teammates Grimm and
Courtney Goff who took 11th and 15th, respectively.
A loaded 50-yard freestyle saw five Trojans take part in the event. Sanchez was the fastest Trojan as she came in 10th with a time of 26.23. Kharlamova,
Courtney Goff, Knapschaefer and Gallego Murcia rounded out the field with places of 11th, 14th, 15th, and 18th, respectively.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Imre Van Huyssteen had the top time of the Trojans with an 11th-place time of 2:19.39. Underwood placed 14th for the event.
Samantha Gray had a couple of 11th-place finishes in the diving competitions. Gray finished the one-meter dive with a score of 154.45 before taking a score of 178.20 in the three-meter competition.
The Trojans took a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle. The team of
Emma Doll, Ruiz Astorga, Fryar, and Coe finished with a time of 3:36.49. Kang, Kharlamova, Sanchez and Ebert placed ninth while Grimm, Knapschaefer, Goff and Van Huyssteen came in 10th.
In the first event of the evening, the squad of Ruiz Astorga, Gallego Murcia, Coe and Doll finished fifth in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:00.73. Underwood, Van Huyssteen, Kang and Ebert placed 10th.
Little Rock will once again face West Florida, Air Force and Tulane on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m., in the UWF Aquatic Center in Pensacola.
