LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock swimming and diving makes the trip north to face conference-foe Evansville on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Â
A win over Evansville would be Little Rock's first victory over a Missouri Valley Conference opponent.
Â
"With a few weeks off, the team is ready to get back to competition," head coach
Amy Burgess said. "We have been pushing them hard in practice, and they're ready to hit the road and test their skills in Evansville."
Â
Nearly three weeks ago, Little Rock took losses to West Florida, Air Force and Tulane on Oct. 16 and 17. Freshman
Laura Ruiz Astorga picked up the Trojans' lone event win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.79, the fastest time for a Trojan swimmer this season.
Â
Last year, the Purple Aces visited the Donaghey Aquatic Center and picked up a 176-110 over the Trojans. Little Rock claimed six events for the day as
Tori Fryar won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles,
Nuria Gallego Murcia won the 200-yard breaststroke,
Jinson Kang won the 200-yard butterflyand 400-yard individual medley and the team took a team win in the 200-yard freestyle.
Â
"This will be our first trip to Evansville, and we are looking forward to an exciting meet," Burgess said. "We match up well, and it will come down to who wants it most. Being our first conference opponent of the season, we're looking forward to showing the freshman a little of what they can expect in February at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships."
Â
After Saturday's meet, the Trojans will have nearly a month to prepare for the Little Rock Christmas Invitational on Dec. 3-5 with opponents Henderson State and Missouri-St. Louis coming to town.
