BOONE, N.C. – The Trojan soccer team picked up a point in the standings on Sunday afternoon with a 2-2 tie against league-leading Coastal Carolina at the Appalachian Soccer Complex.
Â
The Trojans (8-6-1, 3-3-1 Sun Belt) earned their first tie of the season over the Chanticleers (8-4-2, 5-1-1) thanks to a first-half goal from
Fali Garuba and a second-half strike from Arola Aparicio.
Â
The Trojans got on the board in the 31st minute when they won a corner kick.
Jaclyn Purvine took the kick and looped it onto the head of
Fali Garuba. Garuba redirected the ball into the net for her third goal of the season.
Â
Coastal immediately got back into the game in the second half with a goal on a free kick in the 49th minute.
Â
But 63 seconds later, Arola Aparicio gave the Trojans the lead once again after receiving a pass from
Doro Greulich. Aparicio's goal was her third of the year and second of the weekend.
Â
Coastal, however, was not done. The Chants tied the game at 2-2 in the 62nd minute on a goal that came from a corner kick. Despite 48 more minutes of playing time, neither team could score in the overtime periods as the game ended in a draw.
Â
Sara Small played all 110 minutes for the Trojans, making two saves as Little Rock's defense kept her out of danger for much of the game.
Â
The Trojans return to Little Rock this week, taking on Georgia State on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be part of the Trojans' annual #TrojanTailgate and will feature free food and drinks for all fans starting at 6 p.m.
