Little Rock's Season Ends With 3-0 Loss to UTA

ARLINGTON, Texas – Little Rock volleyball's 2016 season came to an end on Friday night as the Trojans (12-18, 8-8) took a 3-0 loss (19-25, 21-25, 14-25) to UT Arlington (17-15, 10-6) in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at College Park Center.
 
Veronica Marin led Little Rock with nine kills, a .348 hitting percentage and four total blocks. Taylor Lindberg tallied 30 assists while Kelsey Leech scooped up 20 digs. Marina Avram put down eight kills with 10 digs and Edina Selimovic had six kills and three blocks.
 
In the third set, the Trojans fell into an eight-point hole at 12-4 and never recovered as the Mavericks took the set with an 11-point win. Marin led Little Rock with four kills while Leech had a set-high nine digs.
 
Little Rock got off to a great start in the second frame with an 11-4 lead. However, the lead was short lived as the Mavericks stormed back to tie the set at 12 before taking the lead at 13-12. Down 17-13, Little Rock put together a long rally with seven consecutive points to take the lead once again at 20-17. UT Arlington then put together a long rally of their own with seven straight points to take set point at 24-20. A kill by Avram ended the run, but a Trojan service error gave UTA the set and a 2-0 lead. Selimovic led the Trojans with four kills and two blocks while Leech added eight digs to her total.
 
The match got off to a rocky start for the Trojans as the Mavericks took a double-digit lead at 16-6. Down 21-10, Little Rock put together a five-point run to cut UT Arlington's lead to 21-15 and forced a Maverick timeout. The Trojans would get no closer as a Maverick kill ended the set. Avram led Little Rock with five kills while Lindberg led the set with 12 assists. Both Marin and Daisha Gillard put down three kills while Marin led the Trojans with two blocks.
 
Gillard ended the match with four kills and a block while Carolee Dillard had four kills and two blocks. Miona Milovanovic and Aubrey Wilson each tallied two kills. Hope Larmour scooped up 10 digs, and Sydnee Martin had seven digs.
