LITTLE ROCK – After a near two-month break from competition, Little Rock swimming and diving will return to the pool as it travels to face conference foe Southern Illinois on Saturday at 10 a.m., at Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in Carbondale, Illinois.
Â
The Trojans are off to their best start in program history with a 5-1 record in dual meets this season. In Little Rock's last dual meet in November, the Trojans defeated Evansville 177-118.
Â
Last time out, Little Rock competed in the Kansas Classic in December and saw eight school records fall in addition to 48 season-best times and 31 personal-best times.
Â
"It's been a while since we competed, so we're very excited to get back in the water and race someone other than ourselves," head coach
Amy Burgess said. "SIU is great competition, and it's a good indicator of what to see at the conference championships."
Â
The Salukis came into the season as the two-time defending Missouri Valley Conference champions and are the only MVC opponent the Trojans have faced every year during the regular season since the Trojans joined the league in 2013.
Â
"They finished first last year at the championships by one point, so it will be a good opportunity for our new folks on the team to see what they're up against in just over a month," Burgess added.
Â
At the conclusion of competition on Saturday, Little Rock will only have one dual meet left in the regular season at Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 21 in Arkadelphia.
