Two Second-Half Goals Lead Trojans over Bears

LITTLE ROCK – The Trojan soccer team got two second-half goals and defeated Missouri State 2-0 at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Quin Wilkes and Liesa Seifert were the goal-scorers for the Trojans, and Megan Swanson earned her first career clean sheet with three saves.

After a first half that saw neither team able to generate quality opportunities, Wilkes started out the second half with a bang. Receiving a pass from midfielder from freshman Morgan Smocovich, Wilkes sprinted with possession of the ball and one defender in front of her. Wilkes dribbled past the defender and took a shot from the right side of the penalty box into the lower left corner of the net in the 48th minute.

Twenty minutes later, Seifert got her first goal as a Trojan on a free kick. Smocovich again played a role in the goal, this time running over the ball on the free kick to fake out the Missouri State defense. Seifert then ran up to the ball and shot it over the wall, curling it into the right side of the net to make it 2-0.

Little Rock outshot Missouri State 15-11 overall and 10-6 in the second half. Swanson made two of her three saves in the second half. Little Rock also had five corner kicks to Missouri State's four.

Lisa Ryan and Swanson were the only Trojans to play all 90 minutes. Maia Martinez made her Trojan debut on Sunday, and seven different players saw action off the bench.

The Trojans play one game next weekend, hosting Sam Houston State at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
