Trojans to Open Spring Semester at Home

LITTLE ROCK - After nearly a two-month break, Little Rock swimming and diving returns to competition with a home meet in the Donaghey Aquatic Center to begin their spring semester. It will face conference-opponent Southern Illinois and in-state rival Ouachita Baptist starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

"This weekend, we are excited to welcome conference-opponent Southern Illinois and in-state rival Ouachita Baptist," head coach Amy Burgess said. "It is always great to race after a few weeks of tough training, and we are looking forward to seeing what the team can do."

The Trojans spent part of their holiday break in Orlando for their annual winter training trip where they overcame some misfortune with the big winter storms that hit the area.

"We had a very solid week of training in Orlando," Burgess said. "There were a few challenges with weather and illnesses, but the team came together and really grew as a cohesive group."

The Trojans are still seeking their first win over a very tough Saluki program. Last season, Little Rock and Southern Illinois competed in three separate meets, all with Southern Illinois finishing ahead of Little Rock. The story is different versus rival Ouachita Baptist. The last time the Tigers defeated the Trojans in head-to-head competition dates back to October 15, 2010.  

Looking ahead, the Trojans will host one more competition on Jan. 26 against SEC-opponent Vanderbilt and again versus Ouachita Baptist before they head to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.

"With only a few weeks remaining until the MVC Championship, it is all about details and fine tuning the hard work that has been put in," Burgess said. "This team is not only strong in the water but out as well, and we are looking forward to showing everyone what they are capable of."
