LITTLE ROCK- The Trojans picked up their fifth consecutive victory Friday night with a convincing 5-0 win over Troy. It was a historic night as Little Rock tallied their ninth shutout of the season, which breaks a single-season school record.
"I was delighted on how well the girls played in incredibly difficult weather conditions tonight," said Head Coach
Mark Foster. "We played some great stuff with the ball and fought hard against a tough Troy team without the ball. Overall it was another wonderful team performance."
Â
Jaclyn Purvine opened the scoring in the 14
th minute with her first conference goal of the season.
Doro Greulich played a nice ball to the feet of Purvine, who showed a great deal just outside the penalty area to shift the ball onto her left foot and fire a shot into the corner of the net to give the Trojans an early
1-0 lead.
Â
Less than 10 minutes later, it was
Fanney Einarsdottir finding the back of the net for the third consecutive game.
Sairra Tucker delivered a beautiful back heel pass to the foot of Einarsdottir who calmly slotted the ball into the goal to double the Little Rock lead.
Â
Purvine found space down the wing to create the third goal for the Trojans. The Moore, Okla. native whipped in a low cross to Greulich who smashed her first-time finish into the back of the net to make the score 3-0.
Â
The senior was not done, however, as
Peyton Laughley sent Purvine through on goal to pick up her second goal of the match. Purvine provided another quality touch with her weaker left foot to drive her shot into the goal for her ninth of the season.
Â
Arola Aparicio Gili capped off the night by getting her name on the scoresheet.
Camilla Olsson lofted a long through ball to the Spanish forward who ran onto the ball with a great deal of pace. Aparicio Gili ran past the Troy backline and took her shot with composure to seal the 5-0 score line.
Â
The Trojans have now set a school record for most shutouts in a season with nine.
Samantha Rolka was the lone Trojan to play all 90 minutes to preserve the clean sheet. The goalkeeping tandem of
Sara Johannsdottir and
Hilma Svalander combined for two saves between the posts.
Â
Little Rock will return to the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex for a matchup with Georgia Southern on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
