Little Rock's Unbeaten Streak Comes to an End

LITTLE ROCK- The Trojans' unbeaten streak of eight games came to an end when they fell to Appalachian State on the road by the score of 3-1. Little Rock seemed to be off the pace in the second half after a long road trip.

"App State had much better energy," said Head Coach Mark Foster. "We really struggled with the mental side of it. We have the conference tournament next week and we we're probably worried about not getting injured. Credit to App State, they were deserved winners."

Jaclyn Purvine opened the scoring in the 24th minute when she was sent through on goal. The senior's initial shot was saved but she showed composure to collect the rebound and put the ball into the back of the net. Purvine's 10th goal of 2018 makes her the first Little Rock player to record double-digit goals in a season since 2008.  This was her third goal in the last three games.

While the Trojans led at the half, Appalachian State looked to be up to speed, controlling a great deal of possession and creating some scoring opportunities of their own.

The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when the Mountaineers won a corner kick. The ball was whipped into a dangerous area and bounced around in the box before Maggie Hanusek got a foot to it and slotted the ball home to get back on level terms.

A little over ten minutes later, Appalachian state took the lead when a rare mistake on the Trojan defensive back line sent a Mountaineer attacker through on goal. Amber Anderson wasted no time to capitalize on the opportunity and give her team a 2-1 advantage.

A frantic Little Rock side could not seem to get back into the game at this point, as Appalachian State took control of the match. The Mountaineers won a free kick in the 84th minute and Kristin Brown impressive blasted the long range effort into the back of the net to seal the 3-1 score line and the three points for her team.

Despite Little Rock's defeat in their final regular season match, they will remain the number two seed in the Sun Belt Tournament next week. The Trojans will play at 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 against an opponent to be determined after seeding is completed.
