Little Rock – Senior
Veronica Marin and junior
Carol Barbosa represented Little Rock in the Sun Belt's announcement of the 2018 Sun Belt Volleyball Postseason Awards. Marin was named as Player of the Year along with being named First-Team All-Conference and Barbosa was elected Second-Team All-Conference.
Marin joins Barbara Gomzez (1997), Tanja Radovic (2000) and Edina Begic (2012) as the only Trojans to win the Player of the Year award and Little Rock has now had a first-team selection in 23 of the last 25 seasons. Barbosa is the 17
th player coached by
Van Compton to make second-team.
Marin, a product of Tulcea, Romania, leads the Sun Belt in blocks per set (1.57) and total blocks (177), ranks second in hitting percentage (.393) and third in total points (433). Her total blocks lead the entire country and she's on track to have the best single-season hitting percentage in program history, topping a mark that has stood since 2005.
Barbosa, a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has the third best hitting percentage in the conference (.368) and the 12
th best blocks per set average (.93). She's pacing to have her junior season be the second best single-season hitting percentage of any Trojan. The Brazilian notched the fourth best single-game hitting percentage in the conference this year when she hit .733 against ULM on Oct. 12.
Little Rock is back in action Friday, Nov. 16 in Atlanta, Ga. at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Trojans will face the winner of Troy/UTA at 6:30 p.m. CT and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
