LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock volleyball team (16-11,8-6) fell in five sets to league-leader Texas State (23-6, 14-1) Saturday night, fighting until the very end.
Texas State established a 6-0 lead right out of the gate thanks to three service aces, but the Trojans answered back by scoring nine of the next 13 points and would bring themselves within one point of tying it at 9-8. Despite multiple Little Rock runs, the Bobcats always found a way to keep themselves at a distance, taking the opening frame 25-23.
With the tone of the match set, the rest of the game would be a roller coaster.
Little Rock answered back by starting the second set out with a vengeance. The Trojans pieced together three small runs, jumping out to an 8-4 lead, before ripping off a 13-2 run, polishing off the set 25-11.
The match's third frame featured seven of the outing's nine score ties and three of the five score changes. The yo-yo set's difference maker was a pair of Bobcat aces and nine Trojan errors that prevented Little Rock from closing the gap. Texas State would take the set 25-19.
Much like the second, Little Rock would cruise to a 7-0 start in the fourth set, leading 20-12, before thwarting a would-be comeback, shutting the door on Texas State 25-18.
The Bobcats had another pair of aces in the final set before the switch and used the momentum to cap the frame and match 15-7.
