SAN MARCOS, Texas - Little Rock's comeback bid for the series sweep falls short, losing 10-6 in game three against Texas State Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark. The Trojans now sit at 16-11 on the year while falling to 6-3 in conference play.
Â
The Trojans found themselves down 7-2 to the Bobcats in the eighth inning when the comeback attempt mounted. It started with
Troy Alexander getting hit by the pitch for the second time in the game followed by
Kale Emshoff hitting a single to move him to third.
Â
The Bobcat second baseman gave the Trojans a little bit of help bobbling the ball on a hit by
Riley Pittman allowing Alexander score, Emshoff to move to third and Pittman to be safe at first.
Â
Nick Perez doubled to left-field to bring home Emshoff and advance Pittman to third. Benavidez capped it off with a single to right scoring Pittman and brought the Trojans within one making it 7-6.
Â
Texas State pulled away again in the bottom of the eighth, however, scoring three more and pushing the game out of reach for the Trojans.
Â
Little Rock took no time putting runs on the board again Saturday, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Marcus Ragan began the game reaching base on a walk and
Chase Coker moved him to third with a double bringing
Matt Merino to the plate.
Â
Merino scored the two with a single to right-center field giving the Little Rock an early 2-0 lead.
Â
The lead was quickly surrendered to the Bobcats after tying it in the second and them taking it the third 4-2.
Â
Ethan Daily had a long 2.1 innings pitched to start the game allowing four runs off of three hits, five walks and 73 total pitches thrown.
Â
Carter Brown and
Cody Daylor followed Daily on the mound and each gave up a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase the Bobcat lead to 7-2.
Â
Donavin Buck came in for relief for the third pitcher to throw in the fifth inning. He held the Bobcats scoreless in his three innings pitched while allowing three hits and striking out one.
Â
Merino ended the day going 2-for-5 with the two RBI's. Coker and
James Gann extended their hitting streaks to seven as Coker ended 2-for-4 and Gann 1-for-4 on the afternoon.
