LITTLE ROCK- The Trojans were firing on all cylinders Sunday night as they picked up a dominant 7-0 victory over UAPB behind two-goal performances from
Jaclyn Purvine and
Maeve Burger.
Â
Little Rock scored three goals in the first ten minutes of the match to quickly set the tone of the match.
Â
"Tonight was excellent to get so many players on the field," said Head Coach
Mark Foster. "I just think we have a lot of girls working hard in training. I thought we played well last weekend and the girls didn't get what they deserved, but this weekend, I think everybody got what they deserved."
Â
Straight from kickoff, the Trojans broke through on goal and created a great scoring chance. Purvine found herself in a two-on-one situation and squared a ball across the box to Burger who delivered a one-touch finish to open the scoring. Less than three minutes later,
Arola Aparicio Gili whipped in a cross to the back post and this time it was Purvine on the receiving end as she promptly put the ball into the back of the net. To cap off an excellent opening ten minutes, Little Rock once again found space in the penalty area and
Camilla Olsson lofted a cross to the back post; the ball found Purvine once again as the Moore, Okla. native headed the cross home for her second goal of the match.
Â
Many Trojans saw action for the remainder of the half and the defense held strong. The Golden Lions were unable to muster a shot against the tough Little Rock defense in the first half.
Â
The Trojans came out on the offensive in the beginning of the second half when they drew a foul just outside the penalty area. Burger stepped up to take the free kick and hit a wonderful shot that flew into the top left corner of the net for a brace of her own. Little Rock now held a comfortable 4-0 lead in the 47
th minute.
Â
Fanney Einarsdotir got her name on the scoresheet in the 69
th minute. After a corner was played into the box, the ball was bounced around and
Doro Greulich managed to find the ball and slip a pass to Einarsdotir who quickly put it into the back of the net.
Â
Sophomore
Peyton Laughley scored her first goal as a Trojan in the 80
th minute when she was sent through on goal and stayed composed through her well-timed shot to make the score 6-0.
Â
In the dying moments of the match,
Morgan Smocovich made sure to end the night on a high note as she received a pass from Laughley and slotted the ball into the left corner of the net to cap off the 7-0 victory.
Â
The Trojans will return to action Friday Aug. 31 at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex when they take on Austin Peay. The seniors will be honored prior to kickoff for the annual Senior Day celebration.
