Marin Tabbed Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock senior middle blocker Veronica Marin has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.

Marin had another stellar weekend at the UCA Invitational in Conway, finishing with 28 kills, 22 blocks and a .414 hitting percentage en route to picking up her second-straight All-Tournament honors. Marin posted a double-double against South Dakota, finishing with 13 kills and a career-high 10 blocks, adding eight kills and four blocks against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and seven kills and seven blocks against Central Arkansas.

On the season, Marin ranks fourth on the team in kills with 80 and leads the Trojans with a .428 hitting percentage, committing just 12 hitting errors on the year. The Tulcea, Romania native also leads the team with 51 blocks, averaging 1.38 per set.

The honor is the second Sun Belt weekly accolade for Marin, who also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors on August 28, 2017. Texas State's Amy Pflughaupt was named the conference's offensive honoree with Appalachian State's Becky Porter being named the Setter of the Week and Coastal Carolina's Anett Nemeth tabbed the Freshman of the Week.

Marin and the rest of the Trojans close out the non-conference portion of their 2018 schedule this week in New Orleans, competing in the AllState Sugar Bowl Volleyball Tournament. Little Rock will face Tulane, Clemson and Villanova in a challenging weekend as they look to build on their 7-3 start, the best 10-game start to a season since 2008.
