LITTLE ROCK- An impressive two-goal performance from TCU's Maddy Warren was enough to give the Horned Frogs the edge over the Trojans in their 2-0 win on a rainy Friday night at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex.
Â
A thunderstorm was detected near the field at the 36-minute mark and both teams were forced to vacate the pitch as a 30-minute lightning delay was put into effect. Play would quickly resume, however, the steady rain would continue to fall.
Â
"They had some special players," said Head Coach
Mark Foster. "I think the lightning delay actually helped us. We were able to talk and it was almost like a timeout for us, and from that point I think we matched them. I think our girls were amazing. I think we had them under pressure. We've played two Power-5 schools this year and I think anybody that has seen both games in their entirety would say we didn't get what we deserved."
Â
The Horned Frogs quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Chaylyn Hubbard made her way down the right wing and delivered a dangerous cross that found the head of Warren for her first goal of the game.
Â
TCU would control possession for much of the first half but the lightning delay would halt their momentum momentarily. Little Rock controlled the run of play after the intermission. The best scoring opportunity came when
Arola Aparicio Gili was sent through on goal but TCU goalkeeper Katie Lund came off her line to meet her just as she struck the ball to stifle the scoring chance.
Â
Warren doubled the Horned Frog lead in the 71
st minute with an incredible individual effort as she took a shot from well outside the penalty area and the ball flew into the back of the net to solidify the 2-0 result.
Â
TCU would remain unbeaten with this win as the talented Big 12 side continues to impress in their nonconference schedule.
Â
Little Rock's four-game win streak comes to an end after a streak of good form and great goal-scoring. Both of the team's losses have come to schools from Power-5 conferences (SEC, Big 12).
Â
The Trojans will look to get back to their winning ways on Sunday Sept. 9 when they take on Sam Houston State at 1 p.m. in Huntsville, Tex.
