Little Rock Makes Quick Work of UAPB in 3-0 Sweep

CONWAY, Ark. – Little Rock returned to its winning ways Friday afternoon, making quick work of in-state rival Arkansas-Pine Bluff 25-12, 25-10, 25-10 at the UCA Invitational. The win snaps Little Rock's stretch of three tough losses as the Trojans improve to 6-3 on the season.

Little Rock took control early in set one, using an extended 12-3 run to turn a 6-5 deficit into a 17-9 advantage and never looked back. Holding a 10-point advantage at 22-12, the Trojans notched the final three points of the opener, hitting .531 as a team with just one error and led by five kills from Mya Robinson.

Set two played out in similar fashion with the Trojans going on an extended 15-3 run early, breaking the set open at 18-7. Little Rock's offensive attack was once again on point, registering 13 kills with just one error, hitting .429 while limiting UAPB to a -.043 hitting percentage. Veronica Marin notched four kills with Pamela Zuluaga registering three service aces on five serves.

With momentum on its side, Little Rock continued to make quick work of UAPB, taking the third set 25-10 to close out the match in just 69 minutes. The Trojans tallied the first 12 points of set three and never let up, continuing its hot-hitting clip with a .400 hitting percentage in the third.

  • Little Rock finished the match with 43 kills on 85 swings with just four errors for a .459 hitting percentage, marking its third match this season hitting .455 or better.
  • The Trojans improve to 6-0 all-time against UAPB and have won all 18 sets against the Golden Lions.
  • Five different Trojans recorded six or more kills in the balanced attack, led by nine from Mya Robinson, who hit .364 for the match.
  • Carol Barbosa and Veronica Marin each tallied eight kills for Little Rock with Barbosa's eight kills coming on nine attempts with no errors, an .889 hitting percentage.
  • Laura Jansen added seven kills for Little Rock with Maritza Mesa contributing six kills and three blocks.
  • Taylor Lindberg finished with another double-double, tallying 14 assists and 10 digs with four kills and three aces.
  • Pamela Zuluaga had a team-high 18 assists with four service aces as the Trojans finished with nine in the match.
  • Sydnee Martin led all players with 11 digs defensively.
