EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Little Rock swimming and diving team raced in a tough tri-meet this afternoon against Missouri Valley Conference foes Indiana State and Evansville. Relays
The Trojans started out strong with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay by the A team of freshman
Fer Moussier, junior
Palmer Ristroph, sophomore
Carolyn Godwin, and junior
Regan Lawrence throwing down a time of 1:51.32, touching out the Evansville Aces A squad by nearly a second and a half.
The meet was wrapped up with an even more impressive finish by the Little Rock team in the 200 freestyle relay, as Lawrence, freshman
Asmalia Redzuan, senior
Charis Won, and freshman
Khadijah Brown put together a time of 1:39.04 for second place overall and nearly three seconds ahead of Evansville's fifth-place A team.
Diving
The junior pair of divers,
Coy Jones and
Sierra Thain, both competed on the boards this afternoon. On the one meter board, Jones took fifth in the nine-woman field with 201.55 points, while Thain turned in a score of 171.30. In the three-meter diving event, Jones turned in a score of 184.25 for seventh place.
Freestyle
In the longest event of the day, the 1000 freestyle, freshman
Emma Bleasdell held on for the fourth-place finish one second ahead of the top Aces swimmer, stopping the clock at 10:53.40. The following event, the 200 free, saw classmate Redzuan as the top Trojan, coming into the wall at 1:57.27.
On the other end of the spectrum, Lawrence was the first Little Rock sprinter to finish in the 50 free, grabbing fourth place with a 25.10 and topping the first Evansville swimmer by just one hundredth of a second. The junior also was the first Trojan to stop the clock in the 100 free, earning a 55.34 for sixth place. For the final freestyle event of the day, the 500, sophomore
Lea Zengerling took fourth in a season-best 5:18.20, followed close behind by Redzuan at 5:19.95.
Backstroke
As in the past few meets for the Trojans, senior
Jessie Baldwin again led the Trojan backstrokers in the 100, touching the wall at 1:01.97 for sixth. Moussier raced in the longer back event, putting up a time of 2:10.90 in the 200 for sixth place as well.
Breaststroke
Ristroph bested the top Evansville breaststroker in the 100 breast by just six tenths, recording a 1:08.30 for third place. The junior repeated in the 200 breaststroke, taking sixth at 2:31.18, with freshman
Aly Grider coming in with a personal best of 2:33.72 behind her.
Butterfly
Posting the top finish of the day for the Trojans, Moussier clinched second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.18, just four tenths behind the top Indiana State finisher. Godwin competed in the shorter fly event, clocking in at a season-best 59.52 in the 100 butterfly for fourth place.
200 IM
Baldwin was the top Little Rock swimmer in the 200 IM, turning in a season-best 2:14.60 with a quick front half to secure sixth place.
