Trojans Finish Level with Skyhawks

MARTIN, Tenn.- After two overtime periods and a hard-fought contest, Little Rock and UT Martin finished in a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon in Martin, Tenn.

It was an extremely even match from start to finish, as the Trojans notched 13 shots with six on target while the Skyhawks recorded 15 with five on target. Little Rock managed to win three corners on the day and the hosts won five of their own.

"It's tough to go on the road on a Sunday, but I was delighted with the girls' effort," said Head Coach Mark Foster. "Even at the end of the game, in double overtime, our girls were working hard and pushing themselves."

It was a slow start on the afternoon, as it took Little Rock until the 10th minute to tally their first shot on goal. Abril Lucio found space for a shot, but it was saved by the UT Martin goalkeeper.

Little Rock then emerged with a solid run of play towards the end of the second half when Peyton Laughley and Morgan Smocovich registered shots on goal, but their efforts were denied and the teams would go into the dressing room with the score tied 0-0.

Shortly into the second half, Fanney Einarsdottir got into the action with yet another shot on goal but the Skyhawks' keeper was equal to it once again.

Little Rock had a chance to deliver the finishing blow in the 89th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, the UT Martin goalkeeper seemed to be in fantastic form, saving the spot kick and sending the game to overtime.

The teams would trade shots in each of the overtime periods, but the match would ultimately finish with nothing to separate the two sides, ending in a 0-0 draw.

Julia Curatolo made her first start between the posts for the Trojans, racking up four saves and keeping her first clean sheet.

The Trojans return to Little Rock for their home opener Aug. 28 at Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex to take on Grambling State at 6 p.m.
