NEW ORLEANS – The chance for new Little Rock associate head cross country coach
Alan Webb to make a splash is ready and waiting for the Olympian runner. Webb will be helping guide a Little Rock men's squad that projected to finish ninth in the Sun Belt while the women were projected to place 10
th.
The preseason picks were made by a vote of the league's coaches and was released Thursday in advance of the start of the 2019 season. Little Rock will open the 2019 campaign at the City Auto Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis on Saturday evening.
The Trojan men finished 10
th last year in the Sun Belt while the women, who finished eighth, lost All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team runner Shanieka Watson, whose time of 17:56.73 placed her 11
th at last year's conference championship meet. This year's women's squad, led by new women's distance coach Meg Joiner, look to confound expectations just like the men.
The 2019 Sun Belt Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, in Hampton, Ga., at Nash Farm Battlefield. The NCAA Regional Championships will be held a week later at various locations and the National Championship is set for Saturday, Nov. 23, in Terre Haute, Ind.
