ATLANTA, Ga. – The Trojan soccer team (3-5-2, 0-1 SBC) made the long trip to the state of Georgia this weekend to begin conference play but was unable to come away with a win.
Sophomore
Fanney Einarsdottir and junior
Morgan Smocovich each tallied two shots, while freshman
Julia Edholm also got one in. Goalkeeper
Julia Curatolo stepped up with three saves throughout the evening, but the team could not stop Georgia State's 14th shot of the night in the 83rd minute.
"It was a really competitive game tonight," said head coach
Mark Foster. "There were periods when we were on fire, and then periods where they were. It looked like it was going to finish in a draw, and we would've preferred that, but it wasn't meant to be and sometimes that happens. Overall, it was a good learning experience for our young team, and we're looking forward to Sunday."
The game was defense-heavy for the Trojans, as they did not fire off a single shot until the second half, and while the Panthers made four in the first 45, not a single one was on-target. Both teams had more opportunities in the second, but the Panthers were able to convert with time running out. In the end, Georgia State outnumbered Little Rock in shots 15-5 as well as corners, 6-0, which shifted the cards in their favor.
The Trojans will continue their journey through Georgia this weekend, stopping at Georgia Southern on Sunday, Sept. 22 for a 12:00 p.m. CT game to resume conference play.
