LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Head coach Amy Burgess and the Little Rock Trojan Swimming and Diving team will begin the 2019-20 campaign this Saturday in Denton, Texas in a dual meet against North Texas. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. using the 16-event format, which includes the 400 IM, 400 medley relay, and 200 freestyle relay.
"We are all itching to compete and to grow as a team," said Burgess. "I believe we have the opportunity to turn some heads this season in and out of the Missouri Valley Conference."
Little Rock was voted to end up sixth in the MVC in the preseason coaches' poll released Friday morning.
Familiar faces to watch for this year include seniors KateLin Carsrud, Amanda Dreyer and Rachel Maradyn; juniors Lily Kerr, Regan Lawrence, Palmer Ristroph and Sierra Thain and sophomores Carolyn Godwin and Lea Zengerling, all of which make appearances on the Little Rock Trojans Top Times List.
Despite the strength in returners, Trojans have a much different look this season, with 12 new freshmen joining the squad. Little Rock also welcomes two junior transfers, bringing the team up from just 22 last year to 30 total members today. The group as a whole may lean towards the young side, but the coaching staff, made up of Burgess, assistant coach Jinson Kang, diving coach Mike Bailey and graduate assistant coach Brandon Parramore, has high expectations for the upcoming year.
"Every week we have been raising the bar in training and the team has stepped up to the challenge," added Burgess. "All of our newcomers have adjusted well and challenged our returners day in and out. We are looking forward to seeing how training translates into going up against some outside competition!"
