Mia Patria Named Sun Belt Cross Country Runner of the Week

Freshman claims honor after leading Trojans in second straight race

NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock true freshman Mia Patria has led the Trojans in her first two collegiate races and the Sun Belt Conference has noticed. The league named Patria its Women's Runner of the Week following her performance at the UTA Invitational.

Patria, a Michigan native, has been the top Little Rock runner in both of its cross country meets this year. During last weekend's UTA Invitational, Patria ran the two-mile race in 12:14.7 to finish fifth overall and average a 6:07 mile.

Little Rock finished just three points behind UT Arlington in the race, thanks in large part to Patria's high finish. That mere three-point differential drastically cut the 116-point margin that separated Little Rock and UTA at last year's Sun Belt Championship race, showing the impact that Patria and the rest of the freshman class have made on Little Rock's Team.

The award marks Patria's first weekly conference accolade claimed in her young collegiate career.

The Trojans now turn their attention to hosting the Little Rock Open on Oct. 17 at War Memorial Park.
