Trojans Drop Tight Four-Setter at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. - Laura Jansen posted her third-straight double-double along with her 500th career kill, but a match with 39 ties didn't go Little Rock's way at Arkansas State this afternoon, as the Trojans fell in four sets.

The Trojans (1-5, 1-4 Sun Belt) were forced to string together multiple late runs in each set, coming from behind to tie Arkansas State 39 times, but only were able to secure victory in the first of four. Little Rock was down 7-13 before winning eight of the next 10 points to even it up at 15. After six more ties, the Trojans hammered down back-to-back kills to take the first set, 25-23.
 
The second set saw a similar story, with both teams earning 4-0 runs back to back at one point, before the it was the Red Wolves' turn to claim the last two volleys. After tying at 19-19 in the third set, Arkansas State went on a 6-0 run, the longest of the match, to finish it 25-19.
 
Arkansas State jumped out to an early six-point lead in the fourth set but Little Rock aimed to make a late comeback to tie the game up, 16-16. Once the teams were even at 22-22, it looked like the set could go either way, but the Red Wolves went on to claim the next three points.
 
Laura Jansen led all players with 24 digs, followed by Leigh Maher's 22. Jansen's 20 kills also led the Trojans, with seven of those coming in the first set.

  • The Trojans hit .265, their highest of the day, in the first set.
  • All five of Nicole Medlin's kills came in the first set.
  • Leigh Maher had back-to-back aces in the second set.
