Trojans Unable to Top Hosts Oregon State in Final Dual

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Little Rock wrestling concluded their regular season this afternoon at conference foes Oregon State, dropping the match 42-0 to the Beavers.

"We finished up our regular season today," said head coach Neil Erisman. "It was a tough one and has been a tough season. I'm very proud of the group of guys we have. We've had some unfortunate things happen this year and every time someone stepped up and said 'I'll do it' or 'What do I have to do for the team.' This inaugural team has built a great foundation."

Paul Bianchi, Tyler Brennan, Tommy Lisher, and Will Edgar were featured in the closest bouts for the Trojans, only allowing decisions to Oregon State.

Bianchi and #10 Devan Turner were quite even for most of the match, tied at 3-3 after the first period with a pair of takedowns and escapes. The junior pulled ahead by one with an escape in the second period, but the ranked Beaver started down and pulled off two takedowns to Bianchi's two escapes to finish ahead 8-6.

True freshman Brennan had to battle back from being down 8-1 after the first two periods, getting a takedown in the third period by putting his opponent into the splits to keep the match at a 9-3 decision.

On the other end of the spectrum, Lisher opened his match aggressively in the first period with a reversal and a takedown in the first period to tie it up at 5-5 before Oregon State took several chances in the final four minutes to pull ahead, 12-6.

Meanwhile, Edgar fought in a Southern Scuffle rematch, staying in the game in the first period with an impressive reversal. The true freshman was able to continue to escape throughout the second and third periods to stay at an 11-6 decision.

Little Rock has the next three weeks to train before the PAC-12 Championships on March 7. The all-day event, hosted by Stanford, will be an exciting conclusion of the season for the Trojans, which will have the opportunity to qualify individuals to the NCAA Tournament.

"We're very excited looking ahead to PAC-12s," added Erisman. "We have a few weeks here to really get better and get ready to compete in our first ever conference championship."
