Last Time Out
Little Rock opened the year taking the series against Illinois State, defeating the Redbirds 6-0 on Friday and rallying to win a 7-6 walkoff on Saturday. The Trojans held a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the ninth Sunday, but three runs by Illinois State gave it the 4-2 win to avoid the sweep.
Five Things to Know:
1. Little Rock was paced by a pair of dominant pitching performances over the weekend, beginning with
Hayden Arnold allowing no runs on five hits and striking out a career-high 11 over six innings in the season opener.
Aaron Funk followed that up with a 7.2 inning performance Sunday, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts.
2.
Miguel Soto had a very strong start to his sophomore season, going 7-for-12 from the plate in the first three games of the season with three doubles and four RBI. He is batting .583 to lead the Trojans and rank fifth in the Sun Belt Conference.
3.
Tim Dixon belted the first home run of the season for the Trojans on Saturday, belting a three-run blast to put Little Rock on top of Illinois State 3-1 in the fourth. He went 3-for-5 on the day and is tied with Soto for the team lead with four RBI.
4. Little Rock started the season 2-1 for the first time since the 2016 season. In head coach
Chris Curry's first season, the Trojans rallied from an opening day loss to Illinois State and defeated Kansas 4-2 before a 6-5 win over the Sycamores.
5. Tuesday's game is the first of two meetings between Little Rock and Grambling State. The Trojans and Tigers will meet up April 28 in Grambling, Louisiana.
