Unfinished Business Campaign Kicks Off To Assist Spring Senior Student-Athletes

LITTLE ROCK – The spring 2020 athletic season was one unlike any experienced before as the COVID-19 pandemic cut short the competition season for student-athletes all over the country, impacting nearly 100 Trojan student-athletes. Those hardest hit by the cancellation were the Little Rock seniors, who appeared to see their playing days ended in an instant.

"It's very unfortunate and really quite sad that our spring senior student-athletes, who have represented this University in a first-class manner and who have worked so hard in their respective sport, have had their senior seasons taken away from them by COVID-19," said Director of Athletics George Lee.

These student-athletes have represented Little Rocks Team on the highest level, and now it's time for Trojan fans to step up and show their appreciation.

In order to assist those Trojan senior student-athletes in spring sports who wish to return for an additional season, Little Rock is establishing the "Unfinished Business Campaign," tying into the theme for the department for the 2020-21 season.

The campaign's aim will be to raise $60,000 to provide the opportunity for senior student-athletes from spring sports to return to Little Rock next season and complete their unfinished business.

"Though this does create an additional financial obligation that we will have to solve, we are excited about the possibility of allowing our spring seniors to return to complete their fourth year of NCAA eligibility," Lee said. "This will also allow many of these student-athletes the opportunity to obtain their master's degree, which will better prepare them for life after UA Little Rock."

Stipulations regarding financial aid were adjusted to permit teams to surpass the scholarship limit to account for incoming student-athletes while allowing returning student-athletes who would have exhausted their eligibility to stay an additional year and complete their final season.

For Little Rock, the ruling affects baseball, men's and women's golf and men's and women's track and field. The Council's vote provided schools with the flexibility to give students the opportunity to return for 2020-21 without requiring that athletics aid be provided at the same level awarded for 2019-20.
