Little Rock Falls to UT Arlington Saturday

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Laura Jansen led the Trojans with 14 kills, Alyssa Nayar registered a double-double but UT Arlington made sure defense reigned supreme as Little Rock dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday evening at the Jack Stephens Center.

Little Rock (11-10, 2-7 Sun Belt) was limited to .125 hitting in the match and was out-dug by UTA, 73-55, as the Mavericks (5-12, 3-5) pulled their first Sun Belt weekend sweep of the season. Set scores were 25-23,22-25, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Trojans were paced by Laura Jansen's 14 kills but she hit just .113 as UTA continually stymied the Little Rock attack. Nayar's 17 assists and 14 digs marked the only double-double in the match.

Sophia Reynolds, making her first career start, led the Trojans with 21 assists while adding five blocks and three digs.

The first set witnessed six ties late in the frame as Little Rock refused to back down. Laure Jansen recorded one of her seven kills in the set on set point before the Mavs could finally notch the 25-23 set win.

Little Rock fought back in the second set with a similar story being played out as the first. The Trojans were handed set point after a UTA service error at 24-19 but let UTA inch back in the set. Reynolds registered a solo block to clinch the set three points later.

The Trojans kept the third set close early on, tallying four lead changes and six ties, the last of which came off a Nicole Medlin kill at the 10-10 mark. But UTA would go on a 3-0 run – prompting a Little Rock timeout – and would keep the Trojans at bay to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

UTA then used a seven-dig advantage in the fourth set and capitalized on Little Rock errors to clinch the match. The Trojans were limited to a .050 hitting percentage in the set.

Little Rock returns to action next weekend in the Peach State with a Friday match at Georgia Southern followed by a Saturday battle at Georgia State.
