Late Surge Comes Up Short in 2-1 Loss at Texas State

Little Rock outshoots Texas State 18-12 on the afternoon

SAN MARCOS, Texas – A pair of second half goals gave Texas State a 2-0 lead, and a late Little Rock charge came up short in a 2-1 loss to the Bobcats Sunday afternoon. The loss snaps the Trojans' six-game unbeaten streak, falling to 6-4-3 on the year and 2-1-2 in Sun Belt play.

"I thought it was a very even game in the first half and played some good soccer, but in the second half we struggled with consistency," said head coach Mark Foster. "I think that can happen at the end of long road trips. We found a spark late, but came up just a little bit short. There were some positives, and some things we can learn from today to get better."

Little Rock and Texas State battled to a 0-0 first half with both teams getting seven shots. The Bobcats were able to get three on net, resulting in three first half saves for Saskia Wagner, as the two teams were scoreless after 45 minutes.

In the second half, Texas State broke the scoring drought, netting a goal in the 56th minute to take the 1-0 lead. The Bobcats added another in the 81st minute, giving Little Rock a two-goal deficit with less than 10 minutes remaining.

But the Texas State goal seemed to spark the Trojan offensive attack, which registered five shots in the final 10 minutes, including three on net. Little Rock got on the board in the 84th minute off a goal from Natalee Geren on a free kick, trimming the lead to 2-1. Julia Edholm had a look in the 87th minute to try and even things up, but her shot was saved to preserve the Bobcat win.

Little Rock outshot Texas State 18-12 on the afternoon, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Edholm led the Trojans with five total shots, including a pair on goal, complemented by four from Abril Lucio and a pair each from Alicia Holmberg and Karina De Paoli.

Wagner played the first half with Paige Henry playing the final 45 minutes in net, being credited with the loss.

Little Rock now returns home to prepare for a rivalry showdown with Arkansas State next Sunday at the Coleman Sports Complex. Opening draw against the Red Wolves is set for 6 p.m.
