LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock swimming and diving team hits the road again this weekend, taking on their first Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) opponents of the season. The Trojans will compete at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Ind. against conference rivals Evansville along with Atlantic-10 team St. Louis, with the tri-meet set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
"Every week we are witnessing growth and strength," said head coach
Amy Burgess. "We have a history with Evansville and SLU and are looking forward to a good fight from both Saturday! There will be a lot of Little Rock GRIT on display in Evansville."
That history with the host Aces has been a series of incredibly tight duals the past few seasons, with Evansville edging Little Rock by just 17 points two years ago face-to-face before finishing less than 10 points ahead of the Trojans at the 2021 MVC Championships. Meanwhile, Little Rock will be seeing St. Louis for the first time in four years, but Saturday will mark the 12th meeting between the two teams.
Look out for a pair of strong freestylers that the Trojans should rely on this weekend. Freshman
Jaelle Carlson and Junior
Annya Grom both rank within the top eight times in the MVC so far in the 50 free at third and seventh, respectively, while the former also holds the third-fastest time this year in the 100 free and sixth-fastest time in the 200 free. This also means that any of Little Rock's freestyle relays have a good chance of coming away from the tri-meet victorious.
Little Rock has had a few weeks to train after splitting a tri-meet against Ouachita Baptist and Incarnate Word, and are ready for a challenge this Saturday.
