POSTGAME INTERVIEW: Coach Curry
TULSA, Okla. – Little Rock dropped a 7-3 decision to Oral Roberts Monday afternoon in the second of two games at J.L. Johnson Stadium. Despite a three-run eighth, an early lead by the Golden Eagles proved too much for the Trojans to overcome as they move to 1-1 on the season.
Oral Roberts collected a run in both the third and the fifth before a homer began a flurry of activity for the host team. A Golden Eagle reached on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on the error. In the same play, another opposing player advanced to second on a throwing error by second base and then made it to third on the error. A double down the left field line led to both Oral Roberts players scoring. A final double to left center brought in one more to extend their lead, 6-0.
Little Rock got a trio of runs back in the top of the eighth, started off by a
Tyler Williams home run. Thanks to a two RBI single by
Noah Dickerson,
Eldrige Figueroa and
Kenny Rodriguez both scored to get the Trojans within three at 6-3.
A one out one RBI double by Oral Roberts extended their lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth before a scoreless ninth inning sealed the deal for the Trojans.
Jack DeCooman was credited with the loss on the mound.
Little Rock will now head to Stillwater for a 3:00 game at Oklahoma State on Wednesday, February 24. The Trojans will have their homecoming at Gary Hogan Field this weekend in a three-game series against Eastern Illinois.
