Little Rock Finishes Seventh at Sun Belt Championship

Malena Austerslaatt and Agatha Alesson notch top-20 showings

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After an over four hour delay due to lightning and rains, the course at LPGA International was deemed unplayable, causing the cancellation of the final round of the 2021 Sun Belt Championship. With the cancellation, Little Rock officially finishes seventh at the conference event with a 27-over 603.

Little Rock was led by Malena Austerslaatt's 16th-place finish at 4-over 148, her sixth top-20 finish of the season. It is the highest finish by a Little Rock golfer since Shania Berger's fifth-place showing in 2017. Austerslaatt was solid on the par-three holes, finishing at even par and tied for eighth among the tournament field.

Agatha Alesson also finished among the top-20, tying for 17th at 5-over 149 and giving her four top-20 finishes in six events in her first collegiate semester. Alesson was the top Trojan golfer on both the par-four and par-five holes, finishing at 3-over and 1-under respectively.

Viktoria Krnacova tied for 34th in her first conference tournament with a 10-over 154, followed by Sydney Scraba tying for 38th at 11-over 155 and Kellie Gachaga rounding out the Little Rock scorecard with a 14-over 158, tying for 46th.

Little Rock finishes the weather-shortened event one shot better than ULM (28-over 604) and two ahead of Appalachian State (29-over 605), finishing four strokes behind rival Arkansas State (23-over 599) and five back of Troy (21-over 598) in fifth.

Coastal Carolina captured the team title with a 14-under 562, besting Texas State (6-under 570) by eight shots. Georgia Southern (13-over 589) finished third with South Alabama (21-over 597) and Troy rounding out the top-five. Little Rock closes the tournament five shots out of a fourth-straight top-five finish.

It caps an impressive 2020-21 season for Little Rock, especially a strong spring under second year head coach Jenna Wylie. The Trojans finished eighth or better in all six spring tournaments, including three-straight top-four showings and the first tournament title since 2016. Competing with three juniors and two freshman at this year's conference tournament will give the Trojans optimism heading into 2021-22.
