Trojan Legend, Former All-Sun Belt Runner Joins Little Rock Coaching Staff

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Dustin Mettler, a two-time All-Sun Belt runner that led the Trojans to the 2010 Sun Belt Men's Cross Country Championship, has joined the Little Rock Track and Field and Cross Country coaching staff.

Mettler joins the Trojan staff after spending four years as head coach at Butler Community College, guiding the Grizzlies to five individual or relay national championships and coaching over 60 All-Americans throughout his tenure.

He replaces Alan Webb, who recently took a coaching position at nearby Catholic High School.

"I could not be happier with the addition of Dustin Mettler to our coaching staff," said J.P. Behnke, Director of Track and Field/Head Cross Country Coach. "Dustin's confidence, passion for Little Rock and work ethic made this an easy decision. Coach Mettler will work primarily with the cross country and distance athletes. As a proud alumnus, he has an emotional connection to this university and is one of the top cross country runners in our program's history. I would like to thank Alan Webb for his dedication to Little Rock and building our distance program to where it is today. I wish him and his family the best as they start this next chapter."

Mettler was an assistant at Meridian (Miss.) Community College prior to that, coaching two national champions in his three years. That came after he got his coaching start at Butler.

Graduating from Little Rock in 2012, he ran what was then a school record and still ranks as the second-fastest cross country 8K time in school history in 2011, posting a mark of 24:18.65 in a performance that garnered him Sun Belt Athlete of the Week honors. He would lead the Trojans to the 2010 Sun Belt men's team title en route to back-to-back all-conference honors.

Little Rock Cross Country is set to open the season on Sept. 3 at the ULM Invitational.
