LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock Golf concluded another successful Golf Shamble Monday, August 23 at Pleasant Valley Country Club. The seventh annual event raised $76,500 for Trojan student-athletes, making it the highest grossing Shamble to date.
"I am so humbled at the incredible support by our Little Rock community each and every year for this Shamble fundraiser," said Director of Golf
Jake Harrington. "This year we had a record-setting event both in monies raised and teams participating and I can't thank our presenting sponsor, Bale Chevrolet, and our lunch sponsor, David's Burgers, enough for stepping up and getting behind our teams."
This year's event honored Little Rock Athletics Hall of Famer Steve Ralston. Ralston was a two-time NAIA All-American for the Trojans in 1973 and 1974, earning honorable mention honors in 1972. He has served as the head PGA Professional at Burns Park Golf Course since 1978, winning over 50 PGA tournaments and ProAm events. Ralston was inducted into the ASGA Hall of Fame in 2004 and has been active in giving back to the golfing community for over four decades.
41 foursomes competed on a sunny and hot day at Pleasant Valley Country Club Monday, playing along side former and current Trojan golf student-athletes. All of the funds raised will go directly to supporting Trojan student-athletes and allow them to represent the department in tournaments across the country.
"This was the seventh year of the tournament and it is great to see not only those familiar faces that have made this fundraiser an annual event on their calendar, but also the new faces that came out to play this year," Harrington said. "There is nothing better than watching our players and alumni walking side by side laughing and enjoying a round of golf on one of the best courses in the state. We are a sport that relies heavily on community involvement since we play and practice on public and private golf courses every day and I am so thankful we were able to celebrate these young men and women as well as this year's honoree Steve Ralston with such a memorable event."
