LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock swimming and diving program opened the season with a second-place finish in the inaugural All-Arkansas Invite this morning. Several Trojans raced in their first collegiate meet, testing the waters in an exciting first home meet.

"It was a fun day for swimming in the state of Arkansas," said head coach Amy Burgess. "We greatly enjoyed welcoming all the teams and getting our seasons started. We had some exciting swims to build on and believe this is just the beginning of great things ahead!"

Relays
The top-scoring relay was in the 200 freestyle relay, where the team of freshman Olivia Henderson, junior Annya Grom, freshman Lucy Jahn and junior Asmalia Redzuan collected a second-place finish. Redzuan posted the fastest split, anchoring the team in a 24.50 to fly past Henderson State for silver and a final time of 1:41.42.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the squad of Grom, junior Fer Moussier, Redzuan and Henderson nearly caught an Arkansas team, touching the wall third at 3:38.18. The freshman had a gutsy final leg, out-splitting the Razorback anchor, while Redzuan highlighted the relay with a split of 53.56, the quickest on the team.
The Trojans took fourth in the 200 medley relay. The team of Henderson, sophomore Karina Harr, Moussier and senior Carolyn Godwin turned in a time of 1:51.45.

Freestyle Events
Lea Zengerling had a strong showing to start her senior year. The Germany native placed second in both the 200 and 500 freestyles, touching the wall at 1:58.02 in the former and 5:15.86 in the latter as the highest-finishing individual Trojan at the meet.
In the 200 free, Redzuan was not far off, taking third in 1:58.18, while in the 500 free, junior Fernanda Gamez came out of heat one to claim fifth with a time of 5:23.38, just tenths behind a Razorback foe.
Grom led Little Rock in the 50 free, finishing with a time of 24.41 for third overall. Freshman Lauren Pieniazkiewicz touched the wall fourth in 25.27, while sophomore Cheryl Poulsen was close behind in 25.44.
Redzuan continued to show her depth across several events in the 100 free, clocking in at 54.47 for fourth place. This time, Poulsen and Pieniazkiewicz switched spots, with the sophomore taking fifth in 56.86 and the freshman sixth with a time of 56.92.

Oddstroke Events
Every 100 event was raced today, saving the longer distances for another meet. Moussier highlighted the 100 butterfly, collecting third place in 59.10. Grom was right in the mix, placing fifth just hundredths behind in 59.19.Â
Harr had an impressive 100 breaststroke race for this early in the year, touching the wall at 1:07.66 for fifth place.
Meanwhile, Henderson was the sole Trojan to break a minute in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 59.79 for a solid start to her freshman season.

The 200 IM saw Devin Trammell leading Little Rock thanks to a quick front half. The freshman turned in a time of 2:16.05, good for sixth overall.

Tallying up 468 points, the Trojans fell only to the Razorbacks despite having just half a roster due to COVID quarantine protocols. Little Rock will use the next three weeks to build up their base before hosting Air Force and Tulane on October 8-9. View the full Trojan schedule here.
