Trojans, Eagles Battle to 0-0 Double Overtime Draw

Little Rock outshoots Georgia Southern 12-11

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock and Georgia Southern battled to 0-0 double overtime draw in a balanced match Sunday afternoon at Coleman Sports Complex. Little Rock now sits a 5-3-3 on the year and 1-0-2 in Sun Belt play, picking up its seventh clean sheet of the season.

"I'm delighted to get a point in the standings, because in this league, you need to earn every point you can get, and especially to get it against a good Georgia Southern team," said head coach Mark Foster. "On the field, I don't think it was our best soccer of the season. We had some chances and we were able to limit Georgia Southern's, but it wasn't the level of soccer we are capable of playing."

The Trojans held a 12-11 shot advantage on the Eagles, but teams struggled to put shots on net, finishing with a pair each. Saskia Wagner made both save attempts in net for Little Rock as the Trojan defense tallied a handful of blocks.

Offensively, Little Rock's 12 shots were led by three from Fanney Einarsdottir, all coming off free kicks, with Jana Heinen and Abril Lucio each registering a pair. Einarsdottir and Mariella Stephens each tallied a shot on goal for the Trojans.

Little Rock had a solid opportunity in both halves, beginning with a shot from Lucio that sailed high of the goal in the 26th minute, followed shortly thereafter by Stephens' attempt into the lower left corner that resulted in a diving save by the Eagle goalkeeper.

The Trojans had another opportunity, beginning in the 62nd minute with a shot from Einarsdottir that sailed high off a free kick. Allison Morrison had an attempt blocked in the 63rd minute, and Lucio just missed connecting on the rebound, putting a shot high.

The draw caps a challenging stetch for Little Rock, which played seven games in 16 days, going 4-1-2 over that span and allowing just three goals. The shutout is the 30th in 66 games for coach Foster and the ninth 0-0 double overtime draw since he took the helm at Little Rock.

The Trojans now get set to head on the road for a pair of weekend matches, beginning Friday at ULM. Opening draw against the Warhawks is scheduled for 7 p.m.
