Andrew Payton, Little Rock Men Claim Wins at Warhawk Invitational

MONROE, La. – Little Rock sophomore Andrew Payton recorded his first career win and posted a personal best 5K time as he led the Trojan men to a first-place finish at the Warhawk Invitational Friday evening in Monroe.
 
Payton's time of 15:52 paced the field and topped his previous best mark by nearly 50 seconds as he crossed the finish line 13 seconds quicker than any other runner. Spencer Cardinal was the next runner across the line, running 16:05 to finish fourth.
 
Aaron Soltmann posted a personal best time of his own as he finished fourth with a mark of 16:26 and he was closely followed by the time of 16:28 recorded by Little Rock freshman Joel Allen.
 
Little Rock's men handily won the meet, scoring 19 points, as all five runners posted a top-10 finish. The women, led by two newcomers, posted a 50-point performance to finish second with three Trojans in the top 10.
 
Freshman Panagiota Lazarou ran 15:18 to lead the Trojan women and finish third overall while Lindsey Hutcheson finished seventh in her first meet in a Little Rock uniform. The Southeastern Louisiana transfer finished seventh overall, ahead of Little Rock's Bailey Cronin, whose 16:12 time placed her ninth.
 
Little Rock next competes on Saturday, Sept. 11 when they head to Conway, Arkansas for the UCA Cross Country Invitational.
