LITTLE ROCK – After a strong start to her senior year, Annya Grom has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's first Swimmer of the Week of the 2022-23 season. Announced by the conference on Wednesday, this marks the third Swimmer of the Week honor of the senior's career.
The Eilat, Israel native owns the top time in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in the 100 freestyle by nearly a full second, touching the wall with a time of 51.20 against North Florida. In addition, she has posted the second-fastest time in the conference in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.77, less than a tenth of a second behind the first-ranked swimmer.
Along with the 100 free, Grom also won the 100 backstroke against North Florida with a time of 58.37, her first time swimming the race during the regular season. Overall, she has not finished lower than 2nd overall in any events, individual or relay, in any of the three meets Little Rock has competed in so far this year.
Speaking of relays, the senior sprinter also helped Little Rock sweep all four (400 medley, 200 medley, 200 free, and 400 free relays) against North Florida as the anchor leg, helping the Trojans turn in the top time in the conference in the 200 freestyle relay so far this year. The recognition from the MVC is well deserved, as Grom's well-rounded slate of events along with her efforts to elevate the program as a whole have led to several program records during her time as a Trojan, and the team eyes even bigger goals on the horizon this year.
This marks the fourth year in a row that the Little Rock swimming and diving team has garnered a Swimmer of the Week honor. Sophomore Jaelle Carlson earned the recognition as a freshman last season, while Grom received the award twice in her sophomore campaign.
Annya Grom and Little Rock swimming and diving team will be back in action next weekend, taking part in the two-day, dual-site MVC Showcase. The Trojans will compete in Carbondale, Illinois while other teams will race in Chicago, with results combined at the end of the weekend.
