MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Trojans were defeated by the Skyhawks of UT Martin on Friday by a score of 1-0 in Morehead, Kentucky. The loss ends an eventful 2022 season which saw many changes in the program.
Â
"We laid it all out there tonight and we deserved more," Head Coach
Kelly Farrell said. "The girls competed until the final whistle."
Â
The lone goal of the match was courtesy of a breakaway, leading to a one-on-one opportunity for Nyeemah Prescod-Beckles who found the bottom left side of the net with what would be the game-winner.
Â
There were several close calls for the Trojans on scoring opportunities. Perhaps the best of which was from a set piece in the 88
th minute. A corner kick off the foot of
Colleen Gilliland sailed into the box where a waiting
Amaya Arias got a shot off that was saved by the Skyhawk goalkeeper in the net.
Â
Little Rock outshot UT Martin on the evening 13 to nine and dominated the second half in shots taken with 11 of the 13 Trojan attempts coming in the final 45 minutes. In addition, each team put five shots on net. Arias and forward
Mari Young led the way with four shots each in the match.
Â
"I am incredibly proud of this team and what they accomplished this year," Farrell said. "I'm thankful for their hard work and dedication, especially with a new coaching staff. I'd also like to thank our four seniors, Mari, Chardonnae, Allison, and Natalee for their contributions to the program."
