Little Rock Men, Women Finish Fifth at OVC Championships

Best conference finish for Trojans since 2015

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock's men's and women's cross country teams each had a runner finish in the top 10 as both teams finished fifth at the Ohio Valley Cross Country Championships Saturday morning.

The finish for Little Rock's Team marked its best finish at a conference championship since 2014 for the men. For the women, who recorded their best finish since 2015, five different runners posted a career best time in the 6K race.

Little Rock's host of new personal best marks was led by Matilda Horton, whose 22:31.1 time placed her ninth overall, led the Maroon and Silver for the fifth consecutive meet. That marked the best finish by a Trojan cross country runner since Noora Wallenius won the conference individual title in 2015.

Zach McPhee was the first Trojan across the finish line for the men as he ran 25:36.2 to finish eighth overall. That marks the best finish a Little Rock men's runner has recorded since Isaac Lalang finished fourth at the 2017 Sun Belt Championship. Andrew Payton followed in 14th, running 25:47.7 while Spencer Cardinal clocked 26:12.4 to finish 21st overall.

Back on the women's side, the PRs kept falling as Kyla Lochtefeld also finished 21st overall, running 23:17.2 while Ariana Garcia clocked a career-best 6K time of 23:28.2 to finish 23rd. Bailey Cronin finished 44th with a time of 24:08.9 while two more personal best times were recorded as Brooke Walker ran 24:18.9 to finish 48th and Keila Finnestad ran 24:31.1 to place 50th.

The men's team scored 112 points to finish fifth, falling just 11 points shy of Tennessee Tech put finishing 32 points better than Southeast Missouri. The women's team scored 138 points, beating UT Martin by 12 points and finishing behind Southeast Missouri's 91 points. Eastern Illinois won both the men's and women's team titles.

Little Rock now turns its attention to the NCAA South Central Regionals in College Station, Texas on Friday, Nov. 11.
