Two Second Half Goals Cost Little Rock on Thursday

Redhawks defeat the Trojans by a score of 2-1

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Trojans got out to an early lead with a goal from Amaya Arias in the 10th minute but fell to Southeast Missouri by a score of 2-1 at the Coleman Sports Complex Thursday evening.

This is just the second time this season that Little Rock (5-6-2, 2-3-0 Ohio Valley) has lost at home. With the win Southeast Missouri (6-5-1, 2-1-1 OVC) remains undefeated on the road in conference play.

Little Rock struck first in the match when a free kick from just outside of the box was redirected by Arias and sailed over the Redhawks keeper into the back of the net. Fifth-year senior Natalee Geren was credited with the assist, her fourth of the year, as she initially booted the free kick.

The Trojans would hold that lead through the first half, limiting SEMO to just one shot in the first 45 minutes.

Southeast Missouri came out of the gate quickly after the intermission by scoring a game-tying goal in the 54th minute. Little Rock was unable to control the pace of the match and the Redhawks would go on to net the eventual game-winner in the 66th minute.

Arias' goal was her fourth of the year as she continues to be the team leader in goals scored this season. The Downey, California native also leads the team in points with eight.

Despite the final score the Trojans held the advantage in most statistical categories during the game. Little Rock bested the Redhawks in shot (8-7), corner kicks (4-1) and had fewer fouls than their opponents (8-14).

Little Rock will be back in action this Sunday with their final road match of the regular season. The Trojans are traveling to the Prairie State to take on the reigning OVC tournament champion SIUE before returning home for two additional games before the OVC tournament.
