EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Daedrianna Cail recorded a career-high nine total blocks, a personal best three aces and hit a team-leading .208 but Little Rock was unable to sustain momentum in a 3-1 loss at SIUE Friday evening.
The Trojans registered an opening set win but found their first Ohio Valley Conference win to be elusive, dropping the four-set match with set scores of 18-25, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-18.
Little Rock (3-15, 0-5 OVC) hit just .036 in the match but registered 11 blocks. More importantly, a week after struggling to record an ace the Trojans rebounded and served up six aces in the match. SIUE (9-8, 4-2), also posted a strong service game with nine aces while matching Little Rock's 11 blocks.
Cail led the charge but the Trojans utilized its most balanced attack of the season with no offensive hitter commanding a majority of the attacks. And while she commanded play at the net with nine total blocks, a quartet of Trojan defenders reached double figures in digs led by
Laure Jansen's 14 digs.Â
After hitting .171 in the opening frame, Little Rock's offense struggled with a -.056 mark and struggled to rebound, not hitting over .030 the rest of the match.
SIUE's hitting mark grew each set, peaking in the third set with a .222 mark as the Cougars hit .117 over the entire match. Sydney Hummert led all players with 15 kills while Nicole Kijowski tallied 29 digs.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
