Little Rock Holds on for 5-4 Win over North Alabama

Tyler Williams, Canyon McWilliams drive in all five runs for the Trojans

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Batting second and third in the order, respectively, Tyler Williams and Canyon McWilliams provided a powerful punch as the duo combined to drive in all five of Little Rock's runs in a 5-4 win over North Alabama Saturday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.

McWilliams started it off for the Trojans (8-4) in the first with an RBI single through the right side to give Little Rock the early lead. Then Williams followed that up in the next inning with a sacrifice fly that drove in two runs and sent Eldrige Figueroa from first to third. McWilliams rounded things out in the fifth with a two-run single to right.

In between, North Alabama (5-7) managed a pair of runs – one of which was earned - in the third inning. The Lions would cut the 5-2 deficit to a single run when Jonathan Lane hit a two-run single to center.

But UNA would strand two runners in scoring position before they could get to Peyton Thomas in the lineup in the eighth and Sawyer Smallwood (1) shut the Lions down in the ninth for the Trojans' second straight victory and his first save of the year. Thomas led the UNA offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

Jacob Weatherly (1-0) claimed his first win of the year after allowing three runs – two earned – on seven hits in 7.0 innings on the mound, walking one and striking out four.

Starting pitcher Will Haberstock (1-2) managed eight strikeouts in his five innings on the mound for North Alabama but also allowed five runs on six hits in that time as he was charged his second loss of the season.

The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday to wrap up the four-game series at Gary Hogan Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
