Trojans Drop Rubber Game to App State

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Tyler Williams hit his second home run of the season – a three-run shot in the first inning – but Little Rock's bullpen couldn't stop App State from putting up crooked numbers late in the game in a 10-5 loss to the Mountaineers at Gary Hogan Field on Sunday.

Williams hit his home run over the left field wall just two batters after Canyon McWilliams put the Trojans on the board with a sac fly. But that would be the extent of the Trojans' offense, with the exception of Miguel Soto scoring an unearned run in the ninth, for the remainder of the game.

In between, Little Rock (11-10, 1-5 Sun Belt) was stymied by the combination of Trey Tojetsch (2-0) and Cameron Carter, who combined for seven of the eight strikeouts against the Trojans and kept Little Rock from adding to its lead early on. Tojetsch was credited with the win after walking one and striking out four in six innings, not allowing a run after that first frame.

App State (9-13, 3-3 Sun Belt) scored a run in the fourth off a Luke Drumheller RBI. Drumheller was one of three Mountaineers to go 2-for-4 with two RBIs. In the fifth, App State scored three runs despite facing two outs. The first two runs came off RBI doubles sandwiched around a walk before a wild pitch allowed the third run to cross the plate, tying the game. That was one of five wild pitches charged to Trojan pitchers in the game.

A two-run double by Austin St. Laurent in the seventh gave App State its first lead of the day and then the Mountaineers tacked on four more runs in the eighth after three consecutive RBI hits.

Chance Vaught (1-3) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in one inning on the mound, walking two and striking out one.

Little Rock hits the road for a pair of mid-week non-conference games at Arkansas starting Tuesday evening.
