LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A day full of dramatics ended with elation at Gary Hogan Field Sunday afternoon as
Noah Dickerson's double off the right field wall gave Little Rock a walkoff 7-6 win over ULM and series sweep over the Warhawks.
Â
Dickerson was just 1-for-5 on the day but his one hit was timely as he drove in
Jorden Hussein for the winning run in a back-and-forth affair. Little Rock (20-19, 9-11 Sun Belt) led most of the game until ULM (15-26-1, 6-14-1) used a three-run eighth inning to claim their first lead of the game.
Â
The Trojans responded in the bottom half of the frame as
Canyon McWilliams and
Miguel Soto hit home runs on consecutive pitches as Little Rock regained the lead, 6-5. ULM's Carson Jones would tie the game in the ninth on a double to left, driving in pinch runner Cole Stromboe. That set the stage for Dickerson's heroics.
Â
It was Hussein's leadoff single in the ninth that allowed him to be in position to score, as well as
Eldrige Figueroa's sacrifice bunt that put Hussein in scoring position.
Tyler Williams reached on a walk before Dickerson smacked a 2-2 pitch off the right field wall. Hussein finished the day 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Â
Hoss Brewer (3-2) was credited with the win as he allowed just one run on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief while striking out one and not allowing a walk.
Â
ULM's Lucas Wepf (1-5) was charged with the loss after allowing the game-winning run in the ninth. He allowed just one hit, one walk and struck out one batter in 0.2 innings in the mound.
Â
The Warhawks were led by Ryan Cupit's 1-for-2 day at the plate as he drew three walks and scored twice. ULM's late-game rally took some of the sting out of missed opportunities as the Warhawks stranded 13 runners on base.
Â
Soto, who hit the second of two home runs in the eighth, was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. His solo shot went along with a pair of doubles as all three hits were for extra bases.
Â
Little Rock concludes a five-game homestand on Tuesday, May 3 as the Trojans host UAPB at 6 p.m. in a $2 Tuesday game at Gary Hogan Field. Tickets online are only $2 and hot dogs will be $2 at the concession stand.
